The Concert Hall by the-awaken
The Concert Hall
The second image of the same series as The Concert. Part of our assignment was to create two interior designs, two exteriors and a panorama shot of the environment. Since I designed the interior of the concert hall , I figured it would be interesting to design the exterior as well. Since it's a common technique in concept art and due to time pressure, I figured it would be interesting to use photo textures for this specific painting. The only things in this painting that are fully painted are the small ironwork sign (don't know the right word for it) and the street lanterns. Naturally the composition and the main design of the building were all sketched out before adding the textures.

Hope you like it! :)

The Concert
This image was part of an assignment where we had to pick a music genre and create a world based on it. I chose "Chanson" as a music genre (Edith Piaf or Jacques Brel for example). The genre in itself reminded me a lot of Paris and it's amazing nightlife in the early 20th century. So i built my own Paris, with some fantasy elements in it.

In this image we are in the middle of a concert (if that wasn't clear). The gigantic robot is there as both (mostly) a monumental decoration and as protection for the artist. If anyone would attempt to climb on the stage, the robot (or at least the one controlling it) will make sure he'll find his way back into the crowd.

Been a while since I've submitted something. In the meantime I've learned a lot in terms of composition and perspective.
Hope you all like it!
I haven't been quite as active as I usually am, simply because I've been doing a lot of work for school. The good news is, that part of that schoolwork was my new website, which you can check out here:

Should you check it out, let me know what you think about it and what you would do differently!

That's it for a short update. I'll add some new works to my deviantart gallery in the near future!
  • Listening to: Max Richter
  • Reading: The Making of ParaNorman
  • Watching: Nocturna
  • Playing: Tactics Ogre: Let us cling together!
  • Eating: Food that tastes good :3
  • Drinking: Coca Cola (as always)

Sorry for the late response!

Talking about those faves: no problem :).

Thanks for all the compliments. My world is something that gradually came to existence as I started drawing (in fact, there are many older drawings in my gallery from when I just started drawing). I was inspired by drawings from Chris Riddell, Anton Pieck and Arthur Rackham. They all had their own style and created these interesting atmospheres in their works, that I wanted to do the same.

Every great artist has it's inspiration. Maybe one day I will become one :)
I see you're well on your way as well!

Np, well everyone has their influences.

Having fun with drawing/painting/other artistic activities is the fundament of becoming an "artist". The word is often used to compliment the "greater" painters and craftsmen, but pretty much anyone who creates is an artist. You've clearly got your own way of creating your things, so you actually have your own style. In fact, i'm certain that people who know you and your work can recognize anything you've made as "yours". If they can and when I look at your work I think they do, you officially have your own style. As your technique improves (which pretty much automatically happens as long as you keep drawing (using tutorials or references can make it go a lot faster though)), your style will as well.

Looking forward to what you will add in the future and thanks once again for faving my work :)
